Wattly

We built a working energy flexibility app in 3 months

Born from our passion for a sustainable future, we launched a spinoff startup to power the energy industry's transition. After identifying the challenge, we developed a solution from scratch and launched it in the US market.

The Mission

With the rise in electricity demand and renewable energy sources grid balancing became more critical. Traditional methods like ramping up power plants are costly and environmentally harmful. Wattly can offer an alternative by leveraging residential electric devices to manage energy consumption, providing a cleaner, cost-effective solution.

The Solution

We delivered 3 key components to make this solution alive:

  • Customer app, where users can connect and manage their electric devices, monitor flexibility program performance, opt-in and out of future events. Past events and user behaviour can be analyzed both by the user and us, making flexibility forecasting possible.
  • Market integration so Wattly can sell the aggregated flexibility of their residential users in various markets.
  • Device integration to enable customers to connect 100+ kinds of devices to the app seamlessly.

In the beginning it was crucial to find a good MVP scope for this complex product to keep our focus. We decided to focus on California and on residential batteries, where battery capacity and grid stability needs are the highest.

We developed the app in React Native with a Node.js backend, it operates on AWS with NeonDB and Redis.

The Outcome

We’ve been gathering feedback and onboarding early users. Wattly’s goal is to expand globally, supporting various flexibility programs and devices, while offering educational resources, community incentives, and more.
