Skillmate is an innovative platform helping teens develop essential life skills. We worked closely with the founders to design and build the platform from the ground up.
Our client wanted to address a key issue: empowering teenagers with soft skills critical for success in both life and work. Skillmate aimed to bridge the gaps in traditional education by offering an accessible platform designed for busy US families.
We developed a bilingual platform with a structured curriculum for teens and parents, featuring a rich library of learning materials, videos, quizzes, and an admin dashboard. We started with a two-day workshop to nail down the product vision, target personas, and MVP scope. This allowed us to measure product features through established product metrics.
We used a cohesive technology stack, that ensured scalability for the future. To mention some details: We used Next.js for frontend and backend for emproved user experience and server-side functionality, Keystone for CMS, tRPC ensured reliable API interactions, and PostgreSQL with Prisma for database operations. We integrated Tailwind CSS for styling, multi-language support, Stripe for payments, and Clerk for authentication. Testing was thorough using Cypress and Vitest, while ESLint and Prettier maintained coding standards, and we managed marketing with Mixpanel, Mailchimp, and SendGrid.
We also created a landing page and collaborated with the client on user discovery and acquisition.
The platform launched on time and on budget, providing teens and parents with a tool to build critical 21st-century skills. The client continues to test with early adopters, and we’re working together to implement new features based on user feedback.
