DokiApp is a mobile and web app offering fast and simple online medical and psychological consultation to patients via live video chat. DokiApp played a huge role in Hungary’s healthcare at the beginning of the Covid-19 when it was almost impossible to get proper medical care in clinics.

the problem

DokiApp was just right before launch when we got the inquiry. The app was crashing unexpectedly, and there were several bugs to fix. The client wanted to release the first version of the product, get traction, and find the product/market fit, but the available version could not have handled the increasing number of users. Therefore, the available version couldn’t be launched.

the solution

At first, DokiApp was only developed for mobile devices. Its video chat functionality heavily relied on a custom webRTC server which did not work effectively. Considering the application’s long-term efficiency and scalability, we changed the custom webRTC server to Twilio webRTC as the latter is more stable and works safely with even more than 2 participants.

To attract more users, we created a user-friendly web app using Node.js and React to make DokiApp available on all devices

For the native app development, we involved external resources (Kotlin and Swift developers) but we took care of the technical project management part completely .

We implemented a hosting service (render.com) and introduced CI/CD pipeline , which resulted in quick releases. Finally, we upgraded the codebase from Javascript to Typescript , which resulted in a more consistent codebase and a better developer experience.

the outcome

The technological enhancements of the mobile app and building the web app took 4 months altogether, after which point DokiApp was launched successfully.

After the product/market fit was found and the web and the mobile app became widely accepted and popular with a large user base, DokiApp received the Application of the Year Award in 2020.
